Call for applications: Brush Creek Arts Foundation

Located on the historic Brush Creek Ranch, a 13,000-acre working cattle ranch and luxury lodge at the base of the Medicine Bow National Forest, Wyoming's Brush Creek Arts Foundation offers writers, visual and performing artists, musicians and composers from all backgrounds and levels of experience an unique opportunity of time and space to create.

Selected artists will receive housing, meals, exclusive studio access and use of the library, lounge and kitchen, which are all nestled in a meadow along the riparian corridor of Brush Creek. Seasonally based, two-week and four-week residencies will be offered beginning January 2012. A blind jury will choose residents based on work samples provided with application.

Call for applications: Bard Fiction Prize

The Bard Fiction Prize, established in 2001 by Bard College, is given annually to an emerging writer who is an American citizen and under the age of 40 at the time of application. The prize includes a $30,000 cash award and appointment as writer-in-residence at the College for one semester, during which the winner is asked to give at least one public lecture and meet informally with students but is not expected to teach traditional courses. Eligible writers should apply with a cover letter explaining the project they plan to work on while at Bard, a CV, and three copies of the published book (manuscripts are not accepted) that they feel best represents their work. Call for entries: Aurora, CO, Art in Public Places program

The city of Aurora Art in Public Places Program is searching for existing sculptures to be considered for a one-year exhibition called “ART 2C on Havana.”

The exhibition is a sculpture-on-the-street project modeled after others around the country that unites the business community and the arts to attract visitors, energize streetscapes and create great public gathering spaces.

A generous donation from the Havana Business Improvement District will fund the $750 artist stipends to transport and install artwork along Havana Street, and will fund cash awards amounting to $1,000 for People’s Choice, $750 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place.

In addition, the Aurora Art in Public Places Program will purchase a sculpture from the exhibit, which will be added to the city’s public art collection and remain permanently displayed in the district.

The Women's Film Institute is hitting the road again, and we are inviting you and your peers to submit your film to the the 3rd Annual Women's Film Institute Shorts Tour!

Over the last two years since its launch, the Women's Film Institute Shorts Tour has screened at various galleries, arthouse theaters, universities, and media arts centers all across the country and throughout the world. The diverse selection of shorts at the tour celebrates the exceptional contributions of women in the world of cinema from around the globe. The tour includes a cross-section of socially-conscious films that are a catalyst for connecting communities and fostering discussion through the power of independent filmmaking. The films serve as a quilt of stories meant to invoke and inspire audience-goers long after they leave the screening.

This is a call for entries for this year's tour. The 3rd Annual Women's Film Institute Shorts Tour accepts short films/videos 20 minutes or under in length, and of all genres: narrative, documentary, music video, animation, and experimental works. Films/videos must be directed or co-directed by women.

Call for entries: Lander Art Center juried show

At a conference where an artist once spoke about her work in detail, the audience laughed out loud when halfway through she said, "As it turns out, I'm from Pittsburgh." After learning so much about her artwork it seemed perfectly fitting that her large steel sculptures would be influenced by this historically industrial city.

Many of us make an exodus at some point in our lives-- to seek out a life of our own. Those who don't make an exodus might gladly identify with their background. Either way, our roots often appear in subtle and interesting ways even if we don't intend for it to happen or notice until later.

In this exhibition: "As it turns out, I'm from..." The object is to connect your artwork to your roots. The connection may be as simple as the artist mentioned above from Pittsburgh who makes large steel sculptures. Or it may be a connection more direct like painting place related childhood memories or using found objects from your hometown. The interpretation of the connection is in the hands of the artist. Your "home" can be a city, state, country, culture or even a state of mind.

Call for artists: "Energy" show at Hotel Hadley Studios (N.C.)

Hotel Hadley Studios is seeking artwork of any media for a show entitled, “Energy.” The show will open July 15. There are many definitions to the word and we encourage artists to consider expanded interpretations. One could look at Energy as fuel for our electricity and cars. Energy as caloric and biochemical fuel for our bodies and minds. Or Energy that fuels our soul through the momentum of human and nature interactions. The show is envisioned as an exhibition of artwork reflecting on energy, in all its glorious forms, and an opportunity to educate about alternative energy resources in Chatham County, the pros/cons of current energy sources, including information on hydro-fracturing and the future of natural gas. We will be partnering with NCWARN and others for this event.

Please limit submissions to 3 samples of your artwork by June 10. Work submitted does not need to be the exact piece for the show but indicative of the work intended for the show. Don't forget to include your name, title of piece, media and size. This is a juried show. There is no submission fee, but there will be a participation fee for those exhibiting. This fee will be a sliding scale starting at $25. Artists will be responsible for the cost of transporting their work to the show and back.

PlatteForum selects artists annually from applicants of all artistic genres. The six-week residency gives artists the time, support and space to advance their work.  PlatteForum inspires them to take risks and explore new possibilities. Each resident dedicates time to groups of youth in Learning Labs or intensive workshops that build upon the ideas and forms of the resident artist. The Creative Resident also mentors ArtLab, PlatteForum’s internship program participants. The Creative Residency culminates in a performance or exhibition of the artist’s work presented in tandem with the youths’ work at our studio.

PlatteForum is a member of the  Alliance of Artist Communities, an international organization that advances creativity.  In short, they are research-and-development labs for the arts. While there are many ways to support and experience the arts – books and paintings, performances and poetry, movies, museums, and music – artists’ communities support individuals in the creation of new art and ideas.

Postmark deadline draws near for WAC visual arts fellowships

The postmark deadline for the Wyoming Arts Council’s 2011 Visual Arts Fellowships is Friday, May 13. The applications will be judged by mixed-media artist Nancy Bowen, photographer Mark Klett and sculptor Joshua Wiener.

The WAC will award up to three fellowships of $3,000 each to honor the work of visual artists that reflects serious and exceptional aesthetic investigation. Painters, sculptors, printmakers, potters, media artists, craftspeople, video, film and others are invited to apply by submitting digital images of their work.

This competition is open to Wyoming residents only.

Call for entries: Northeast Wyoming Visitor Welcome Center's 1 Percent for Art Project

A call for entries for a sculpture for the Northeast Wyoming Visitor Welcome Center in Beulah has been issued by the Wyoming Arts Council. The deadline for submissions is May 13.

The Art in Public Building’s Committee for the project is requesting an existing sculpture by a Wyoming artist. An exterior island between the parking lot and main facility is the preferred site for the sculpture.

The Visitor Welcome Center, which opened in July 2010, is a state-of-the-art green facility blending both traditional western and contemporary eco-friendly design elements. The facility is integrated into a promontory site offering sweeping vistas of the surrounding landscape.

During the groundbreaking ceremony for the Visitor Welcome Center, a number of fresh mountain lion prints were observed around the site, and an adult mountain lion was observed in the vicinity. A full-size sculpture of a mountain lion, as well as indigenous wildlife such as elk, deer antelope, bear; or bucking horse and rider, the Sundance Kid or western outlaw, are subjects the committee finds appealing.

Call for artists: Texas Tech University public art project

Texas Tech University Public Art Committee has issued a call for artists.

Deadline: May 25, 2011.

The Texas Tech University System Public Art Committee is seeking proposals from artists to create large-scale artwork for the new Rawls College of Business Administration building at the Lubbock campus. The final product will contribute significantly to the public art collection at Texas Tech and enhance and compliment the newly constructed 149,000-square-foot facility.

Call for entries: ArtSpot in Jackson

Located on Hwy 89 in Jackson, the ArtSpot is seen by an average of 30,000 people per day. The ArtSpot v2.0 is the only venue in Wyoming dedicated to the public display of temporary art projects. The ArtSpot is a kinetic sign structure created from a repurposed chairlift tower donated by the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Designs reflective of Jackson’s natural environment are torch-cut into the steel. The ArtSpot program appeals to the average viewer who might not be personally invested in arts and culture, yet can be impacted by artwork that inspires a sense of community by depicting shared themes, values and experiences.

Call for entries: Wyoming Plein Air Competition

Please join us for the Western Wyoming Plein Air Competition, July 18-22 in scenic Cokeville, Wyoming. Cokeville is located in Southwestern Wyoming.  This ranching valley is filled with varied subject matter -– cowboys, cattle, horses, rivers, streams, waterfalls, sage, cottonwood trees and rocky mountains. 

Artists may paint anywhere in Western Wyoming with at least one painting within 20 miles of Cokeville.  Artists may turn in up to four completed, framed and ready-to-be-hung works for the competition and show.  All work must be done en plein air without the assistance of photography and must be started and completed on July 18th - July 22nd. The ‘Paint Out’ will be followed by a Reception and an Award Ceremony for the artists and their guests on Friday, August 13th. The Western Wyoming Plein Competition will culminate in a show and sale held in conjunction with the Minerva Teichert Invitational Art Show.

Emerging Young Artist Art Contest for Laramie County

This first year’s art contest will have a science theme. Draw or depict a science idea, whether existing or something you imagine existing in the future! The sky is the limit. Be creative. Be innovative. Have fun!!

The contest is open to all students and children anywhere in the Laramie County School Districts, grades Pre-K through 12, and home-schoolers. Entries can be submitted in 2D (drawings and paintings) or 3D (sculptures). All entries must be inspired by some aspect of Science. Artists may submit one entry only to the contest. Postmark deadline is April 30, 2011.
