This was in the September issue of the Johnson County Arts & Humanities Council newsletter:

A "Call for Artists" was published in local media and mailed to more than 50 local artists last spring.

Louise Anderson's oil painting, "Elgin Park," was the first work to be completed for the project, and can be seen on the door panel of the historic Shaver Building on Main Street, home to the Holistic Health Center.

Project Coordinator Dollie Iberlin, who has been meeting with artists and building owners throughout the summer, says, "The selection committee was so pleased to be able to accept all ten artists who applied for the project. The response from the building owners has been great."

Other artists who will install their paintings, cereamic relief, mosaics, sculpture and poetry on downtown buildings this year are Haylee Bolinger, Dave Donahue, Amber Green, Pat Marton, David Romtvedt, Bonnie & David Schlesselman, Susan Sorenson, Becky Spencer and Mary Sue Williams.

Kaycee's Justin Beasley performs July 24 in Buffalo

On Saturday, July 24, 7-8:30 p.m. in Buiffalo's Crazy Woman Square, you are invited to a free performance by Wyoming recording artist Justin Beasley, featuring songs from his recently released third CD, ”Cowpoke”.

“These are songs that my Dad played countless times while I was growing up. Some will be familiar, while others I’ve never heard performed and I wanted to preserve them before they got lost in time.” A Kaycee resident, Justin was a featured artist at Sheridan’s WYO Theater in April, and often appears with his band, After the Rodeo.

There will be lots of fun in 2010, including the Wyoming Mandolin and Banjo Championships, an Old Time Fiddle Contest, and a Guitar contest too, with the winners of the mandolin, banjo, and fiddle contest all winning guaranteed slots at the Walnut Valley Festival contests in Winfield, Kansas. The Band Scramble will be entertaining as always, and we'll have a variety of workshops hosted by our performers. We'll have some instruments raffled off (including a very nice Weber Gallatin F mandolin), food and craft vendors, a pancake breakfast, great folks, and lots of jamming.

Arts in the Wyoming Legislature this week

The Wyoming Legislature will be getting a double dose of homegrown arts this week.

"Meet the Artist" March 1 at Crazy Woman Fine Art Gallery in Buffalo

You are invited to “Meet the Artist” on Monday, March 1, 7-8 p.m., at Crazy Woman Fine Art Gallery, 5 N. Lobban St., Buffalo.

Meet Jenny Wuerker, a nationally-known artist who employs what she calls “X-sport” working methods to create large-scale Wyoming landscape paintings from direct observation out-of-doors. She will discuss her paintings, personal history, and vision. Her paintings are currently on view at the Yellowstone Art Museum in Billings, Mont., and are included in collections across the U.S. Don’t miss this informal, free, presentation.

Jalan Crossland Band heads up New Year's Eve concert in Sheridan

Art show at Margo's benefits Buffalo's Crazy Woman Square Project

Margo's Pottery and Fine Crafts in Buffalo is having an art show to celebrate the holidays and to benefit the Buffalo Development Association's Crazy Woman Square Project. A percentage of all sales will go to the Buffalo Development Association. "A Progression" is an installation by artist Haylee Bolinger, that celebrates her recent travels to India.

The free event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 3, 5-7 p.m., at Margo's Pottery and Fine Crafts, 1 North Main.

Kaycee's Georgie Sicking in the news

In a Nov. 13 article on the Cowboy Legacy web site, Elladean Hays Bittner wrote a story on a series of interviews with Arizona ranch women. One of those interviewees was cowboy poet Georgie Sicking of Kaycee, Wyo. (pictured above), who spent most of her life in Arizona.
